Firewoodisland live at The Louisiana, Bristol. Thursday, 26th October 2023
“A swooping intense experience, it's immaculately pieced together.”
“Oh that’s fantastically gorgeous, isn’t it? Bit Bon Iver for sure, but absolutely wonderful.” Mark Radcliffe, BBC 6 Music
“They sound festival-sized, delivering uplifting anthems that would fit as comfortably on the radio as around the campfire.”
Firewoodisland are Bristol based Norwegian/Welsh duo, Stian Vedøy and Abi Eleri. Live, they deliver dynamic vocal harmonies and create an anthemic, cinematic sound that according to Wonderland Magazine, "immediately evokes a full-body chill in the first few opening bars." Labelling their sound ‘mountain pop’ they combine the catchiness of pop with the sensibilities of indie, sprinkled with some organic elements from folk.
Hailing from a windswept west coast island of Norway, Stian met Abi after moving to Cardiff to study for a master in music production. Abi was at the time studying illustration, and the two paired up to form the band. Their sophomore album (2020) was a turning point for Firewoodisland, as the duo finally felt at home creatively. With all audio and visuals being created in their own home in Bristol, you encounter a little piece of their soul when you experience Firewoodisland’s work.
2023 has seen the duo release a handful of singles leading up to their 3rd album in early 2024. One of which was synced on Grey’s Anatomy. As well as supporting the Kaiser Chiefs in London.
The duo have seen praise from magazines like Clash Mag, Atwood Mag and PopMatters; heard their music on TV series including Netflix's Shadowhunters, Nurses and Vice; with features in several Spotify editorial playlists, bringing their total plays to over 9 million. No stranger to radio, the duo has been heard on BBC 6 Music, Radio 2, A-listed on BBC Radio Wales and BBC introducing. 2021 saw the duo release two singles with Warner Music UK, leading to a major sync on an Airbnb commercial in the US and Canada.
In 2022 the duo played festivals such as Rochdale Feel Good Festival, Weyfest, Icebreaker Festival and Lechlade Festival as well as auditioning for Pilton Party. Firewoodisland has also been seen on stages like BBC Introducing stage at Latitude, Lake Fest, Between The Trees Festival, Vikedal Roots Music Festival Norway, 100 Dagar Showcase Festival Norway, St Giles in London supporting Bear's Den, several UK headline tours and over 20 Sofar Sounds sessions.
